How I got rid of the annoying drone while towing, but kept the big rig sound
This is the second turbo diesel that I have owned. As with the first, literally the day after I bought it, I straight piped it. This is fine for cruising around and commuting, but when towing heavy the drone makes your ears ring! Here's how I did it:
The outer canister is 6" aluminized exhaust tubing, the inner core is 4" perforated with 37 percent open area, the end caps are 3/16" steel, and the tubing is swedged to slip over the existing 4" exhaust.

I weld it all together with my 220 mig using argon/co2. As you can see, the penetration is excellent.

The inner core only has 1" of 1200 degree packing around it, that's how it keeps the big rig sound!

As you can see, the entire thing is hand built. The over all length is 15"

Sorry GM I stole your exit location. I wanted the muffler as far back as possible but need some tubing after it to maintain proper scavenging out of the muffler. Keeping the tubing straight reduces back pressure and drone.

It installed into the existing tubing very easily!

I didn't want anything fancy for a tip, this is just my tow truck/ daily driver. I went for clean and simple.
