I have a 2007 F-350 with the 5R110 transmission. My Operator's Manual says to use "Mercon SP" only. Is anyone out there using an Amsoil oil in this transmission, and if so, what Amsoil product do you use instead of Mercon SP? OR, should I not switch because Mercon SP is already synthetic and I should just stick to my factory schedule??

Sorry, I'm illiterate. I have a 5R100 trans.

You would want to use the Amsoil (ATF) universal transmission fluid. It meets the Mercon SP spec. The Amsoil has a longer drain interval than the OEM fluid, 100,000 miles Normal drain interval and 50,000 miles Severe Service. With my 02 CTD I just dropped my pan and changed my filter and topped off with about 5-6 qts. I changed my filter every year and topped off.

To get the full benifit of the Amsoil ATF you would want to get as much of the OEM fluid out. Yes the OEM fluid is synthetic just as the Chrysler ATF, though I does not have the additive package of the Amsoil synthetic ATF, and will last much longer, and keep your trans run a little cooler.

Changed the tranny fluid in my 06 F250 at 17,000 miles and very glad I did. Noticeable difference in shifting vs. the stock fluid that was in it. Did mine following the directions from Amsoil and got probably 99% of the old fluid out that way. Remember to change both tranny filters not just the pan filter.

Spend $200 at the dealership and don't worry about a warranty hassle if there's a problem.

Amzoil doesn't necessarily "meet the spec", more like "AMSOIL ATF is recommended for transmission, hydraulic and other applications requiring any of the following specifications:" (from their site).

Meeting the spec is far different from a recommended substitute.

AMSOIL ATF meets and exceeds both the Mercon V and Mercon spec and is tested to meet each one separately,
And the drain interval specification is 3 times Ford's recommendations.
