HELP !!!

I have a Ford 2006 F-350 with 16,851 miles . On christmas day our truck lost power and then stalled, we had to be towed to the Ford dealership. Because the truck was not running we were told they could not run any trouble codes. However, they were able to tell me that my aftermarket oil filter came apart in the oil housing and 3 fragments from the oil filter is in there somewhere and because of this it has caused damage to 2 or more of the injectors. Anyone ever hear of this ??? So of course Ford will not cover under their warranty... They state that the oil filter is a defect, and that is what caused it.. Any information you may have ,it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kandi

Regardless of the oil filter you where using, the Dealer can not void your warranty due to not using a Ford oil filter. Read the Bulletin below: You may want to go to their site and print off a copy of this technical bulletin and confront you service manager at the Dealer ship, then see if they change their tune. Also maybe my friend Dave Mann could give some input on this subject.

Technical Service Bulletin 85-1R2 (From Filter Manufacture Council)

Manufacturers' Warranty
Consumer purchasers of filters are sometimes told that an aftermarket brand of replacement filter cannot be used in the consumer's vehicle during the warranty period. The claim is made that use of an aftermarket brand will "void the warranty," with the statement or implication that only the original equipment brand of filters may be used. This tends to cast doubt on the quality of the aftermarket filter.

That claim is simply not true. If the consumer asks for the statement in writing, they will not receive it. Nevertheless, the consumer may feel uneasy about using replacement filters that are not original equipment. With the large number of consumers who prefer to use an aftermarket filter this misleading statement should be addressed.

Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the Clean Air Act and general principles of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Act, a manufacturer may not require the use of any brand of filter (or any other article) unless the manufacturer provides the item free of charge under the terms of the warranty.

If the consumer is told that only the original equipment filter will not void the warranty, they should request that the OE filter be supplied free of charge. If they are charged for the filter, the manufacturer may be violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or other applicable law.

By providing this information to consumers, the members of the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC) intend to combat the erroneous claim that the use of a brand of replacement filter other than original equipment will "void the warranty."

It should be noted that the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a U.S. federal law that applies to consumer products. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has authority to enforce the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, including obtaining injunctions and orders containing affirmative relief. In addition, a consumer can bring suit under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Herb,

Wow !!! Thank you for that information, you can bet I will look into that.
Here is one other thing we are concerned about, but we just want to cover all basis before we go and give it to them....
Because we do not drive our truck that much it's a 2006 with 16,851 miles, we were over by approx. 2000 miles of when we should have had an oil change, would this change anything ??? From what I have been told is, 2000 miles over on a change is nothing. But I just want to make sure. We are in the process of having the oil sampled and I have the filter in my possesion and I will be sending that off to be analyzed as well. Just to cover all basis...
Thank you for all your information.

Doing a oil analysis would be a great idea, and having that information handy. Furthermore, the practice of extending oil drain intervals does not void warranties. Original equipment manufacturers pay or deny warranty claims based on the findings of failure analysis. To affect the vehicle warranty, the lubricant must be directly responsible for the failure. If the oil didn't cause the problem the warranty cannot be voided, regardless of brand or length of time in use. Hope this helps, keeps up posted on the out come.

Good Morning Herb,

Thank you !! I'm starting to feel a little better about this..

I was concerned about the injectors also, and am being told that without tests , they can not tell if your injectors are bad. So, that helped out to because the only test they ran was an Oasis system, ( which means and maybe you already know, they hop on a computer and enter in what we told them the truck was doing and by that the computer kicks back an educated guess as to what is wrong ) So without them going into the engine nor running test on the injectors, we are being told they would not know that our injectors are bad.. I am learning alot.. And then with your information regarding the oil and filter, I think I may have my bases covered...

Thank you,
Kandi Alexander

Hi Herb,

Thanks for all your information. I received a phone call from an attorney yesterday and I am to meet with him on this wednesday ( tomorrow).. I got the results back regarding the oil. Everything looked great as far as they were concerned. They really could not pin point one bad thing.. So, that was more good news for us... I'll let you know the outcome. Dave Mann contacted me also and gave me some information as well. This web site was real helpful too, I'm sure you have probably hopped on it one time or another.
intellidog.com/dieselmann/60bulletin.htm. So I am backed by alot of knowledge now.....
Again, Thank you.
