Just changed out the OEM diff fluid from my 6.7 CTD last week, I would recommend to everyone to do this within 3,000 to 5,000 miles to remove break in gear oil and and small metal particles from the break in. My OEM gear oil to my suprise was very dirty, grey in color and a fair amount of metal particles attatched to the drain plug magnet.
After letting the OEM gear lube drain for awhile and cleaning out all the grim from within the inside of the diff cover, it was time to put the cover back on. To speed up the process I have a 3/8" drive extention that fits in my 18V cordless screwdriver making taking out and putting in the diff bolts with ease. The OEM diff cover has a fill line scribed on the outside of the cover, to get you close to the level I just stuck my finger in the hole to about the line on the cover. To fill the rear diff it took exactly 3.7 qts of fluid. I used the Amsoil Severe Gear SVT 75w-110 Also the Amsoil hand pump does come in handy for filling the differential.
