If the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) goes bad as ours did, the engine will slighty surge at idle. Some owners have been fine for a couple of years, some go really bad in a couple 100 miles, as ours did. It would not pull the boat out of a back yard. It really smoked sometimes at idle too. We were on a trip so had to take it in. The test showed over fueling, that is what made it smoke. Cost was $900. Been running fine for the last 5K miles. It did not set a code either.

With under 110k miles on my 2002, I haven't had that problem yet - but it's good to keep in mind. Thanks for the info.

I have seen a few successful uses of 1 quart of 2 cycle oil into the tank of fuel before fill up cure idle surge for a while. Plus it can lower your return rates of the injectors.
