View Full Version : 2007 6.7 CTD extended Oil Drain Updates
Well after install of the Amsoil BMK-11 by-pass and Amsoil DEO 5w-40 to date I have over 2,000 miles on oil. I will be posting regular updates with mileage on oil with results of oil analysis on oil. My first oil anlaysis will be close to the OEM recommended interval of 7,500 miles so I have a few thousand miles yet, going to see how far I can push this oil. Keep you posted.

Will do Chad. My first sample will be at 7,500 miles, at the OEM recommended interval.

I'm doing the same thing with just the EAO filter and AME 15w40 HD Diesel and Marine oil... But I am sampling every 5k.. Its almost time for my first sample on this batch. I am hoping to get it to last at least 25k miles.
Scott you will have no problem, even at the Severe Service interval of the AME 15w-40 has a 15,000 mile interval. We have some customers going over 30,000 miles by just using the EaO oil filter, backed by oil analysis. I believe the 2004.5 CTD has a OEM drain interval of 15,000 miles on conventional oil.

Yeah Herb, with severe use the recommended oil change interval was 7500 miles.. with lighter use (what I do in my truck) its 15k, on factory oil and the recommended mopar filter. I have no doubt that I will easily be able to go 25k on the Amsoil. I have always had faith in the product, but have not been using it long enough to ever do an oil analysis.. which reminds me, I need to order the kit here soon for the first 5000 mile sample I want to do.

My partner and I are AMSOIL Direct Jobbers in Wichita Falls, TX. We own & operate an AMSOIL only lube shop and retail store. We see a lot of diesels and have one we are currently monitoring the DEO oil on with oil analysis. It does not have a bypass filter unit installed. At the last analysis the truck had 11,387 miles on it and 5,161 miles on the oil. The TBN was 4.54 and the other parameters were in the normal ranges. We expect the TBN will hold up at least until 10,000 miles. I'll keep you posted. Feel free to call or e-mail me anytime.

I just sent in a analysis last week and waiting for results on the DEO on my 6.7 Keep you posted.
Well just received my oil analysis report today and all is well at 5,000 miles on the DEO 5w-40. I did it a little earlier than the OEM 7,500 miles recommended interval, due to at the begining of my purchase of this truck I had a few injectors leaking and replaced and wanted to make sure I was not dumping fuel into the oil.
Over 6,500 miles on oil and all is well, oil change light came on the other day for the second time, I just reset it. 6.7 is running very well.
Will be changing out the OEM fluid in the G-56 6-sp manual very soon Amsoil ATF. Only thing left to do is front diff and transfer case.

I have over 50,000 miles on my oil and I test every 20,000 miles. Do you think I should be testing at earlier intervals? My copper levels are always high (750) but we think that is from the oil cooler. I sent in both filters for anaylsis and all was OK. Anyone else have the same high copper levels?

Yes, on my 2002 dodge cummins I ran the dual bypass and the 5w-30 HDD, copper was as high also due to oil cooler leaching, or could come from ealry engine break-in. Which was stated on the oil analysis at that time. Though oil analysis showed oil was good to go and re-sample at next interval, I changed both my filters and topped off. I had a total of 71,000 miles on oil in my dodge cummins when I traded it in, oil was still good.
Oil analysis for diesels are recommended anywhere from 3,000 miles to 20,000 miles. Depending on the mileage your driving a year, I did mine at first 2 times a year for the first two years, and then once a year or at 10,000 mile intervals when I had a handle on it.
9,000 miles and all is well, TBN 5.17
Update : Over 11,000 miles and oil analysis shows oil is suitable for continued use. All looks good.
17,000 miles and all is well. :)
