View Full Version : Conversion of 6.0 F450 to 6.4
Hi,
I have a 2005 Earthroamer RV, which is based on the F450 diesel truck. I recently test drove the 2008 and noticed a substantial reduction in noise and increase in power. Is it possible to install the 6.4L engine in my 2005 truck?
Thanks,
Steve.

Steve, it would be extremely expensive and complicated to convert your 6.0 to a 6.4L. You would need to purchase a new 6.4L engine, new exhaust system, electonics and wiring then spend a lot of labor and time trying to integrate everything to work properly. The 6.4L is a new engine designed and engineered to meet the new more stringent Federal exhaust emissions requirements and includes a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) on the exhaust, new block, heads, injection system, twin turbos, electronics, wiring, sensors and more. You would be better off selling your 6.0 and purchasing a new 6.4L model if the lower noise levels are that important to you. There are other benefits that the 6.0L has over the 6.4L which make the 6.0L more attractive to some people. Dave

Like Dave said, it would be pretty much cost prohibitive to do the swap. I know a lot of people that own 6.0's that are happy with them, and there have been some issues with the 6.4 as well.
