Has anyone experienced fuel dilution problems or have any knowledge of it. There has been a lot of discussion on one of the other forums, and I spoke with another AMSOIL Dealer in Texas who discovered he was having a problem after spending the money to convert to AMSOIL and to put a By-Pass on his new 6.4. He pulled a sample at 7,500 miles on the new AMSOIL and it returned with a reading of 4% fuel dilution. He worked it out to 1 quart of diesel in the crankcase. He feels that he wasted his money converting and is now afraid to go the 10,000 miles on the oil change. Ford has refused to do anything saying it is normal in the 6.4. That seems to be the consensus of everybody on the other forum that is having the problem. They are being told Ford does not recognize Oil Analysis.

This is a problem with Ford and not AMSOIL. 4% fuel dilution is very significant and beyond excessive and would indicate a mechanical problem. If there was one quart of diesel fuel in the crankcase the engine would most likely be have mechanical problems and/or potential damage. 1qt out of 15-16 qts. capacity is about 6-7%.
Fuel dilution can be the result of leaking or defective injectors, excessive idling, incomplete combustion, improper timing, poor fuel quality and leaking fuel pump or lines. The effects of fuel dilution include oil thinning which may cause poor oil lubricity, poor performance and poor fuel economy. Fuel dilution is identified by sample odor, visual inspection and by laboratory FTIR scan, gas chromatography and flash point testing.
Fuel Dilution -
Normal: <1.0%
Abnormal: 2.0%
Excessive: 3.0%

Hi Dave,
There are many postings of this problem on the Ford Powerstroke Forum including one from the AMSOIL Dealer in texas. It is apparently when regen occurs during idle conditions. Apparently owners are being told by Ford that it is normal for the oil level to rise between oil changes in the 6.4. I was informed that they put out a TSB and reprogram to eliminate regens at idle in July. Previous they refused to do anything about it and that fuel dilution was a normal thing in the new trucks with PF,s. Just like the 6.0's, not all trucks are having this problem. You might fiind the posting on that forum interesting.

I own a 08 F250 with 6.4 and just noticed the same issue, I was changing my filter at 8,000 miles on amsoil.
Seems to me my fuel mileage has gone down since last computer upgrade at dealer ship...
I also owned a F150 04 that had the same issue of fuel dillution and on that engine the 5.4 it sludged up the oil so bad it blocked the return oil passage in the valve train the the motor was starved for oil and resulted in major engine dissasemblly to clean the suldge created by unburned fuel washing down the cylinder walls into the oil pan.
Ford needs to step up to the plate and fix these issues, I was never a Ford fan until 04 and know may just end up going back GMC...
An excessive rate of fuel dilution is accoring in 2007-2010 Dodge 6.7L, Ford 6.4 and GM/GMC 6.6L diesel pickups with new DPF emission engines, also all extended drain intervals have been reduced to OEM drain interval. Extended drain intervals me be extended with oil analysis.
Research indicates fuel dilution is intensifying due to the use of in-cylinder post-fuel injection during the engine’s exhaust stroke to regenerate the diesel particulate filter (DPF). Fuel in the oil reduces the oil’s life expectancy and effectiveness.
Best thing to due, like myself with my 09 Dodge Cummins is to purchase the DPF delete kit and EGR block off, then use Amsoil AME or HDD motor oil.

Less fuel mileage...check. More frequent Oil changes....check. Yep sounds like a typical government intervention program. The EPA and CARB should be defunded and dismantled. Way to take technology forward.
