Need a new (to me) ranch truck for timber property. Will carry 600 gal plastic tank for fire fighting (5000lbs) or 3-4 yards of base rock for road maintence so I need a class 4 (14000-16000lb gvwr) truck. Budget limited to $10,000 max. Am looking at 1990s Ford F-Super Duty (aka F-450) & GM 3500 HD with DRW, diesel, and 160"WB. These trucks are attractive because the're in my price range and AAA will insure both while they won't insure any other medium duty trucks.
Need specific information about both:
better & worse years?
better & worse engines?
better & worse transmissions?
known problems?
apparently Dodge didn't produce a similiar truck until later?
